Live and act

Christoph Pahr's exact life dates are unknown. He came from the Pahr family of builders and sculptors . His father Jakob (Bahr, Baar, Bavor, Pahr, Parr, "Jacob the Elect") came from Bissone (Ticino) to Silesia when he followed a call from Bishop Jakob von Salzas to build a fortress in 1539 . From 1547 to 1556 he completed the construction of the palace castle of Brzeg and later directed the construction of the city school (1548), the grammar school (started in 1564) and the town hall, which was built from 1570 to 1572. The father died on August 15, 1575. Pahr himself married a woman named Maren, whose father Mathias Marcus Dabercusius was the first rector of the Schwerin Princely School.

Pahr's name was first recorded in documents in 1558. During this time he designed for Duke Johann Albrecht I a 'hewn gate "for the Schwerin Castle . In 1563/64 he beautified representative rooms of this castle as a plasterer, including the "chambers above the court church". From 1563 to 1571 he worked for Duke Ulrich III. and decorated several halls and cabinets in Güstrow Castle with figurative and ornamental stucco decoration. For the ballroom in the south wing, he designed a frieze that consisted of stuccoed deer and stags that ran around the entire room. He probably created Germany's first continuous animal frieze with which hunting trophies were to be presented. At the same time he was working in Bützow near Güstrow. Here he was probably working as a plasterer in Schloss Bützow .

Around 1565 Pahr probably created scenic reliefs for the pulpit of Güstrow Cathedral . In 1572 he took over from his brother Johann Baptist , who henceforth replaced Johann III. from Sweden worked, the position of the Schwerin palace builder. In addition, he designed the “princely chair” of Schwerin Cathedral at the same time. A short time later he went to Sweden like his brothers Johann Baptist, Franciscus and Dominicus . From 1573 to 1577 he directed for Charles IX. work on the castle and fortresses in Nyköping and Eskilstuna . From 1574 to 1582 he worked as an architect on the new construction of the choir of St. Nicholas Church in Nyköping. In doing so, he oriented himself towards Strängnäs Cathedral . After 1580 he rebuilt the younger porch of the old castle of Örebro to the castle of Örebro .
