Franziskus (Franz) Pahr (also a couple ) (* Haynau , Duchy of Liegnitz ; † 1580 in Stockholm ) was a German builder.

Live and act

Franziskus Pahr lived married in Haynau in 1549. From 1547 to 1557 he built castles in Haynau and Brieg and probably also in Warsaw . Duke Ulrich III. von Mecklenburg appointed him in 1558 as court architect in Güstrow . Here he planned the new building of the Güstrower Schloss and took over the construction management of the west wing and the western half of the south wing until April 1567, when his contract was terminated. Until 1572 he also carried out minor construction work for the dukes of Mecklenburg . He often spent the winter months in Silesia .

In 1572, Johann Baptist Pahr placed his brother as the court architect of King Johann III. to Sweden. Here he made plans for the rebuilding of Uppsala Castle, which had been destroyed by fire, and expanded it. From 1573 to 1580 he was in charge of the building work. During this time, the western section of the south wing was built, which comprised the king's rooms above the Gräseholmbastion, the south portal ( King John's gate ) and the castle parlor behind it. Remains of the buildings that still exist today show that there, as at Güstrow Castle, mannerist motifs of the Italian art of facade construction were combined with French spatial structures.

In 1574, Pahr applied unsuccessfully to Elector August of Saxony . From 1578 he directed the construction of the cathedral tower in Uppsala .
