Christoph Rösel

Christoph Rösel (* 1964 in Rockenhausen ) is a German Protestant theologian and university professor. From 2003 to 2014 he taught the Old Testament at the Tabor Evangelical University in Marburg and was also a private lecturer for the Old Testament at the University of Marburg . Since March 2014 he has been General Secretary of the German Bible Society in Stuttgart.

Live and act

Rösel initially studied Protestant theology at the St. Chrischona Theological Seminary in Bettingen near Basel from 1984 to 1988 . Then he was a preacher for the Evangelical City Mission in Lich near Gießen. From 1992 to 1997 he continued his studies at the University of Marburg and received his doctorate in Protestant theology with a study on the messianic editing of the Psalter . In 2004 he successfully completed the adult education course at the University of Kaiserslautern . In 2011 he completed his habilitation in the subject of the Old Testament.

From 1996 to 2002, Rösel worked as a theological consultant for the Akademiker- SMD , a Christian network for men and women with academic training. He has also published a number of articles and books on scholarly exegesis and church-related subjects of biblical interpretation . For the scientific Bible portal of the German Bible Society WiBiLex , he wrote articles on Old Testament keywords.

Rösel was involved in the revision of the Luther Bible in 2017. He is also involved in the creation of the Basic Bible , the full edition of which is to appear in January 2021. So far the New Testament and Psalms have appeared. Rösel sees the BasisBibel in the tradition of the Bible translator Martin Luther: It is close to the original text and concise in the language.

Christoph Rösel is married and lives near Reutlingen .
