Christoph Ulrich Meier

Christoph Ulrich Meier (born May 16, 1968 in Ulm ) is a German conductor who teaches as a university professor and has worked for the Bayreuth Festival since 1992 . As a guest he conducts opera performances on German and foreign stages.

Life

Christoph Ulrich Meier studied at the University of Music in Würzburg from 1987 to 1992 . During this time he worked as a solo coach and conductor at the Landestheater Coburg from 1990 . After completing his studies, at the age of 24, he received his first engagement for a season at the Munster Municipal Theaters . From 1993 to 2000 he was assistant to Daniel Barenboim at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin . Here he also assisted Claudio Abbado , Pierre Boulez and Zubin Mehta .

From 2001 to 2010 he was a professor at the Detmold University of Music , after which he moved to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna .

Guest conductors have taken him to the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Oper Frankfurt am Main , the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz , Grand Théatre de Tours , the Opéra Nantes , the Teatro la Fenice Venezian and to Japan with the Nagoya Symphony Orchestra . He is also a solo pianist, and he has performed as a song accompanist for example. B. with Waltraud Meier , Peter Schreier and Mihoko Fujimura .

Bayreuth Festival

Since 1992 Christoph Ulrich Meier has been the musical assistant and director of studies at the Bayreuth Festival. From 2007 he worked as musical supervisor, especially for the works conducted by Christian Thielemann . He became known to the general public when he took over the musical direction of Tannhäuser for the sick Fabio Luisi in 2007 .
