List of conductors at the Bayreuth Festival

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of conductors at the Bayreuth Festival includes all the musical directors of the Bayreuth Festival , in alphabetical order, since the festival began in 1876. Traditionally, only seven of Richard Wagner's (1813–1983) operas are performed in Bayreuth . The Ring of the Nibelung consists of four evenings ( Das Rheingold , Die Walküre , Siegfried , Götterdämmerung ) . The program also included the 9th Symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven in six years (1933, 1951 to 1953, 1963, 2001) .

Only one conductor, Felix Mottl , was employed at least once in all of the different operas. Christian Thielemann has so far conducted all works except Lohengrin , and in 2018 he is scheduled to conduct the Lohengrin. Six conductors performed five of the operatic works: Karl Böhm , Wilhelm Furtwängler , Berislav Klobučar , Horst Stein , and Richard Wagner's son Siegfried Wagner (1869–1930).
