Christoph Wilhelm Braveleit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christoph Wilhelm Braveleit (also Christoph Wilhelm Braweleit , * around 1752 in Labiau , Kingdom of Prussia , † March 4, 1795 in Königsberg , Kingdom of Prussia) was an organ builder in the Duchy of Courland and the Kingdom of Prussia.

Life

Christoph Wilhelm Braveleit was possibly of Lithuanian origin, the name could be derived from Bravilaitis . Braveleit was a student of Adam Gottlob Casparini in Königsberg, with whom he built an organ in Wilna (Vilnius) from 1774 to 1776 . In 1776 his name appeared in the register of the Königsberg University for Organ Building ( architecturae prae-primus organicae ). In 1779 Braveleit was granted organ builder privilege for the Duchy of Courland and Semgallia . 1784 was given as the place of residence Tuckum (Tukums). In 1788 the Duke of Courland offered him a right of residence in Goldingen (Kuldīnga) without having to accept citizenship of the city.

In the same year Braveleit returned to Königsberg and took over the workshop of the late Casparini, which he had previously asked him to do. As a court organ builder, Braveleit built some larger organs and was responsible for tuning some of the instruments in Königsberg. He died of dropsy in 1795.

Jacob Preuß completed the organ in Heiligenbeil, and Carl David Amstel was the new court organ builder.

Works (selection)

Only a few organs are known from Christoph Wilhelm Braveleit. The organ in Ēdole (Edwahlen) in Latvia and the prospectus in Kuldīga (Goldingen) as well as the Casparini organ in Vilnius have been preserved .
