Christoph Wittmann

Christoph Wittmann (* 1967 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Christoph Wittmann first studied electrical engineering, from 1992 singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim with Rudolf Piernay , his second major in conducting. In 1994 he received a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service and moved to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama , London. During his studies, Christoph Wittmann, winner of several international singing competitions, took part in numerous opera productions in Germany and abroad. Other important singing teachers for him were Nicolai Gedda , Liljana Nejceva and Charles Reid . The tenor took master classes with Brigitte Fassbaender , Graham Johnson and Emma Kirkby and worked with the great conductors of the time such as Frieder Bernius , Marcus R. Bosch , William Christie , Colin Davis , Thomas Hengelbrock , Simon Rattle and Helmuth Rilling .

In 1996 he made his debut at the Staatstheater Braunschweig , followed by an engagement from 1997 to 2000 as a lyric tenor at the Städtische Bühnen Freiburg . From 2001 to 2004 he was a member of the ensemble at the Theater Bremen and from 2005 to 2010 a member of the ensemble at the Nationaltheater Mannheim . He has been working as a freelancer since 2010.

Opera guest contracts have taken Christoph Wittmann to Berlin, Görlitz, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Leipzig, Ludwigsburg, the Heidenheim Opera Festival , England, Ireland and Italy.
