Christoph von Rotenhan

Christoph von Rotenhan (* before 1424; † September 22, 1436 ) was Bishop of Lebus .

Life

Christoph von Rotenhan had the academic degree of Dr. iur. and Dr. iur. can. and came from the Bamberg area. He was provost of St. Gumbertus in Ansbach . Although the Lubusz cathedral chapter had elected Peter von Burgsdorff as bishop, Rotenhan was able to assert himself as confidante of the Brandenburg Elector Friedrich I and obtained papal confirmation on October 11, 1424.

During his term of office, numerous villages, the Fürstenwalder Cathedral, the Carthusian monastery in Frankfurt (Oder) , the Müncheburg as well as the city and castle Lebus were destroyed by the Hussites . In 1433 he took part in the Basel Council and in 1434 consecrated his brother Anton von Rotenhan as Bishop of Bamberg . In 1435 he settled border disputes between the town of Landsberg an der Warthe and Poland. After his death he was buried in the Fürstenwald Cathedral.
