Christophe-Alphonse Geoffrion , PC (born November 23, 1843 in Varennes , Eastern Canada , † July 18, 1899 in Dorion , Québec ) was a Canadian politician of the Liberal Party of Canada , who was a member of the House of Commons between 1894 and 1899 and a minister from 1896 to 1899 was without a division .

Life

Christophe-Alphonse Geoffrion worked as a lawyer . After the death of his older brother Félix Geoffrion on July 8, 1894, he was first confirmed by acclamation as his successor for the constituency of Verchères in the lower house and as such in a by-election on April 17, 1895. In the general election on June 23, 1896 , he was re-elected as a member of the lower house for the Liberal Party in the new constituency of Chambly-Verchères with 2,511 votes. In the eighth cabinet of Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier he served from August 21, 1896 until his death on July 18, 1899 as a minister without portfolio . As a minister, he also became a member of the Canadian Privy Council . After his death, his younger brother Victor Geoffrion was elected as his successor in the constituency of Chambly-Verchères as a member of the House of Commons. His brother-in-law was the politician Antoine-Aimé Dorion , who was Vice Prime Minister of the Province of Canada between 1863 and 1864 .
