Basil Christopher Butler
Basil Christopher Butler OSB (born May 7, 1902 in Reading , United Kingdom , † September 21, 1986 ) was Auxiliary Bishop in Westminster .
Life
Basil Christopher Butler joined the Congregation of Benedictine at and received on 10 June 1933, the sacrament of Holy Orders .
1946-1966 Butler was abbot of Downside Abbey . On November 29, 1966, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the titular bishop of Nova Barbara and ordered him auxiliary bishop in Westminster. The Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal John Carmel Heenan , ordained him episcopal on December 21 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Clifton , Joseph Edward Rudderham , and the Apostolic Delegate in the United Kingdom, Archbishop Igino Eugenio Cardinale .
