Evangelical Christ Church, Sindorf

The Christ Church in the Sindorf district of the city of Kerpen belongs to the Evangelical Church Community Sindorf in the parish of Cologne South .

Church history

The first Evangelicals in the district were initially looked after by the Frechen community . The Kerpen / Horrem community had been independent since 1928. In 1948 it was divided into the districts of Sindorf with the towns of Götzenkirchen , Boisdorf , Heppendorf and Ahe and the district from Brüggen to Niederbolheim . On January 1, 1972, the district became independent. Services were held at times in the Catholic Church of St. Ulrich . A church building was planned from 1950, but this was only possible thanks to a donation from the United Glass Works, Sindorf plant. According to plans from 1951 by the architect of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland , Assessor Prell, the local building contractor Kost and the architect Krohn from Mödrath built the church. The foundation stone was laid on July 13, 1953, and the church was consecrated on December 6th, Advent.

Building description

The church is a simple building under a steep pitched roof with space for about 200 people. Light falls through two arched windows on the side of the side entrance under the gallery . A flat extension on the opposite side from 1994 with sacristy, sanitary and utility rooms only leaves space for a pair of windows. The tower, also with a gable roof, is set behind the choir area. The area under the gallery can be separated and used for group work and as a community hall.

Furnishing

The steel bells from the Bochumer Verein could be purchased in 1956 and 1959. The congregation chant was accompanied by a harmonium . It was not until 1971 that the parent community was able to take over and restore an organ from the Peter workshop , which was rebuilt in 2014 by the Siegfried Merten workshop using pipes and parts from the old work. It has two manuals and 15 stops .
