St. Maria Queen (Sindorf)
St. Maria Königin in Sindorf , a district of Kerpen in the Rhein-Erft district , is a Catholic parish church built after the Second World War .
prehistory
Plans for a second church building for the growing community next to Ortisei were already considered towards the end of the 19th century. Shortly before the First World War , the parish was given a suitable piece of land. But the times were unfavorable for such a financial feat. In the greatest war emergency in the Second World War , Pastor Stratmann consecrated the congregation to the Mother of God in a solemn service and vowed a church dedicated to her if the congregation would be spared from severe destruction. A church building association collected funds from 1952. On June 26, 1953, the decision to build a new church was decided, the foundation stone was laid on July 31, 1956 and Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Ferche consecrated the new church on December 2, 1956 . The Cologne architect Fritz Schaller provided the plans .
Building description
The church is a three-aisled building complex built in reinforced concrete based on a basilica, which is clad with bricks. The slightly arched concrete roof is supported by 14 individual concrete pillars. The over 50 m high tower with an open entrance stands separately to the south and is connected to the church by a corridor. In addition to concrete and bricks, a lot of glass was also used, which - attenuated - illuminates the room. The entrance side of the tower is also designed tower-high with glass. The chancel, which is slightly raised by two steps, is located in the east, and the organ is on the western choir pedestal. A small inner courtyard is enclosed with side rooms.
Furnishing
The ambo is a work of the Cologne sculptor Sepp Hürten from 1994, as is the altar table made from old parts , the wooden crucifix hanging freely above it comes from H. Dünnendahl. The round baptismal font is also remarkable . On the side walls there are small-format glass pictures by the artist Buschold, which depict motifs from the Lauretanian litany .
organ
The current organ was built in 1996 by Mönch from Überlingen . The instrument has 31 stops on three manuals and a pedal . The organ's playing and stopping actions are mechanical. The pipes are on slider chests and the organ has a double register with a setter.
