The Christ Church is a Protestant church in the Cologne suburb of Dellbrück on the right bank of the Rhine . It was built in the neo-baroque style according to plans by the architect Otto March and was inaugurated on June 18, 1905.

history

After there had only been "a handful" of Protestants in Dellbrück around 1890 , the community developed very quickly in the course of advancing industrialization . A Protestant school was established and in March 1903 the Mülheim community decided to build a church in Dellbrück.

The Protestant industrialist and manor owner Paul von Andreae donated the building site for the church and for a parsonage to be built later. The church was built in neo-baroque style according to the plans of the architect Otto March from Berlin. The foundation stone was laid on April 24, 1904 in the presence of the three Mülheim pastors, the presbytery and a large number of Dellbrück parish members. The ceremonial inauguration followed on June 18, 1905 by the general superintendent Valentin Umbeck .

The two world wars did not spare the church. The bells were melted down twice . During the Second World War , covered on 19./20. In May 1944, an air mine almost completely removed the church roof, and when the Allies marched in in April 1945, artillery fire caused some of the roof to collapse. On December 21, 1947, the church was ready for use again, and on June 27, 1954, new bells rang for the third time. In 1956 the interior of the church was renovated, the pulpit was moved and its cover removed. On June 11, 1967, the church received a new organ . In autumn 1989 the roof and exterior plaster were renewed.

From 2000 onwards, considerations about the redesign of the church interior were in progress, and the completion of the interior renovation could be celebrated on November 30, 2003. In June 2005, the 100th anniversary was celebrated with a week of festivities, during which each day had a specific motto :

Opening event with the festive church service and the sermon by the council chairman of the Evangelical Church in Germany i. R. Manfred Kock . The commemorative publication “100 Years of the Christ Church”, which had been created by parishioners, was then presented.
