Chrysoula Zacharopoulou

Chrysoula Zacharopoulou ( Greek Χρυσούλα Ζαχαροπούλου ; * May 7, 1976 in Sparta , Greece ) is a French gynecologist and politician ( LREM ). She has been a member of the European Parliament since May 2019 .

Profession and Politics

Zacharopoulou is a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics. In Italy and France she specialized in endometriosis . She has lived in France since 2007 and worked at the Bégin military teaching hospital in Saint-Mandé near Paris until 2019 .

In the 2019 European elections (ninth electoral term) Zacharopoulou stood as a candidate on the Renaissance list , which was formed by LREM, MoDem , smaller parties and non-party candidates from the pro-European center. Just behind the far-right Rassemblement National , Renaissance came in second with 22.4 percent of the vote.

In the European Parliament , Zacharopoulou is a member of the liberal Renew Europe group. She is Vice-Chair of the Development Committee and the Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly. She is a member of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality as well as a deputy member of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and the delegations in the European Union- Chile Joint Parliamentary Committee , for relations with the Pan-African Parliament and in the Parliamentary Assembly Europe- Latin America .

In addition, Zacharopoulou is a member of the cross-party “Intergroups” of the European Parliament for LGBT rights, for people with disabilities and for animal welfare and animal welfare .

Zacharopoulou is currently working two days a week in the triage unit of a French hospital because of the COVID-19 pandemic .
