The Cians is a river in France that runs in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region . It rises in the French Maritime Alps , on the southeast slope of Mont Mounier (2817 m), just outside the Mercantour National Park . Its source lies between the peaks of Tête de Pierrous (2047 m) and Tête de Chamia (1943 m) in the municipality of Beuil . In the upper reaches it crosses the Champ de Tir de l'Empeigné military area . For his future in the south it passes through the spectacular gorges Gorges du Cian superieures and Gorges du Cian inférieures and ends after about 25 kilometers to the municipal boundary of Touët-sur-Var and Rigaud as a left tributary of the Var .
