The Mont Mounier is a striking 2,817-meter high mountain between Var - and Tinéetal in the French Alps in the Alpes-Maritimes .
Shortly below the summit, an observatory was built in 1893 by Raphaël von Bischoffsheim . After a fire it was not put back into operation, so that the building could serve as a refuge for the Club Alpin Français from 1927 to 1940 .
The Mont Mounier is a vantage point, which is a popular vantage point even in winter as a ski tour, from which on clear days the view extends to Corsica . The blue path of the Via Alpina long-distance hiking trail and the GR 5 lead over the Col de Crousette (2,480), from which the summit can be reached in just under an hour on an easy path.
