City of Caterpillar was a Screamo band from Richmond , Virginia / USA that existed from 2000 to 2003 .

history

The band was founded in the spring of 2000 by singer and guitarist Brandon Evans after his band had split up shortly before.

Over time, there are some line-up changes on bass and drums. Kevin Longendyke becomes the new bass player, while a year later Pat Broderick takes over the drums. Everyone knows each other from the punk / hardcore punk scene in Virginia.

The band was strongly connected to the DIY philosophy and propagated it.

After a tour in Canada with the band Strike Anywhere , the band split up in 2003 due to personal differences.

The band members were or are active in other bands such as Verse En Coma , The Ghastly City Sleep , Haram or Darkest Hour .

style

Typical for the sound of the band are the changes between loud and quiet, fast and slow, which are also essential for the emo genre. The music is also characterized by the equally essential explosive scream passages and quieter song parts.

On a page with descriptions of emo and screamo bands it says:

"This combination of dynamic build ups and emotional releases had been flirted with before in the emo scene, but City of Caterpillar really showed the scene how far you could push the idea."

The structure of the songs seems more chaotic, but the titles remain relatively slow. The sound is very similar to bands like Moss Icon, who also come from the Washington DC Hardcore area .
