After almost forty years of service, the ship was decommissioned in 1993 and laid up in Eleusis , where it sank in November 2000.

history

The Claymore was built by Denny & Bros in Dumbarton , Scotland , and launched on March 10, 1955. On June 15, 1955, the ship was handed over to its owner and shortly afterwards used on the route from Oban via Tobermory , Tiree and Castlebay to Lochboisdale .

In 1972 the Claymore was decommissioned and launched for the next four years until it was sold to Canopus Shipping based in Piraeus in April 1976 and renamed the City of Hydra . It was then converted into a cruise ship.

From 1977 the ship was used by the Greek shipping company Cycladic Cruises for short cruises from Piraeus to Poros and Hydra . The ship remained in this service for 16 years until it was decommissioned on February 1, 1993 and laid up in Eleusis .

The City of Hydra lay for seven years in Eleusis, until on 24 November 2000 of unknown causes flip side got and sank soon after. Since the water in Eleusis Bay is deep enough, it was decided not to salvage the wreck.
