action

A group of homeless people in Los Angeles is hit and killed by a meteorite that has fallen to Earth . A little later, the undead , which have now mutated into zombies, rise up to seek the death of other people and to transform them into living dead as well. The creatures wander to an empty warehouse where two warring gangs are trying to conduct illegal business. The meeting is observed by the police, who are supported by a “ mole ” and at some point instigate the storming of the building. Even before the police officers involved in the operation reach the building, they are attacked like a raid by the zombies that have arrived and are bloodily butchered. Only the two surviving officers, Campbell and O'Bannon, manage to escape into the saving warehouse.

There they meet the two gangs: the four African American Jerome, his young sister Latasha, Mac T and Snake Dog, as well as four members of the Mexican gang around their quick-tempered leader Caesar. First, despite all the hostility and insults, Campbell manages to use gun violence to ensure discipline. Since neither outside help nor an escape from the house surrounded by the zombies is expected, the influence of the isolated officials is waning. Despite the critical situation, Campbell fails to organize the defense. When Caesar succeeds in gaining possession of firearms in a daring action - his younger brother is infected in the process and a transformation into a zombie is imminent - the situation inside the building changes suddenly. The Hispanics now tyrannize the remaining survivors, the cohesion necessary for a successful cooperation is impossible. Caesar is responsible for Campbell's death. Furthermore, he aggressively fights the African American people present; the female informer Cassie, Caesar's friend, remains undiscovered.

While doing research in the warehouse, one happens to come across the TV announcer Weatherman, who previously lost his attractive wife in an attack by the monsters. The alcoholic man, who questions the meaning of his earthly existence, later allows himself to be bitten by Caesar's chained brother with suicidal intent. The trapped are now hunted by the living dead in the building, the number of the living is thus greatly decimated. At the end of the film, Jerome, his sister Latasha and police informer Cassie are harassed by zombies. In this plight, Jerome blows himself up with a multitude of undead. Latasha and Cassie survive the events only to witness an ominous meteor shower as they leave the building, which falls on earth and possibly heralds the end of humanity.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a “price-consciously produced horror film that combines motifs from Romero's zombie and Carpenter's terror thriller Assault ” in order to cause “bloodbaths typical of the genre” .
