Ciucurova ( German Tschukurowa ) is a village and at the same time a municipality in the Tulcea district in Romania in the historic Dobruja region .
The name means wide plain and comes from Turkish. When the village belonged to the Sanjak Tulcea, Turkic- speaking farmers made up the majority of the population. After the annexation to Romania by the Berlin Treaty of 1878 , most of the Turks left the place and Bessarabian Germans and Germans from the Kherson area were settled in Russia. From them the ethnic group of Dobrudscha Germans developed , who left the country in 1940 and were resettled in the German Reich .
Today the village is mainly inhabited by Romanians who make a living from agriculture. But there are also Turkish surnames. There are schools, a library and a main paved road that leads to Atmagea . The old prayer house serves as a quarry. The closest secondary schools are in Tulcea. Children who want to visit them can live in boarding schools there.
