Clásico Paisa ( Spanish or rather Colombian name for the derby of Antioquia ) characterizes the city derby between the football clubs Atlético Nacional and Deportivo Independiente from Medellín , the second largest city in Colombia and metropolis of the Antioquia region.

history

Deportivo Independiente Medellin, or DIM for short, was founded in 1913 and is therefore the oldest still existing football club in Colombia. DIM sees itself as a people's association ( el equipo del pueblo ) and is traditionally regarded as having a “proletarian touch”, while the city rival Atlético Nacional, founded in 1947, has bourgeois roots.

Another major difference between the clubs is that Atlético Nacional relied on local players from the start and won many of its titles with a team made up entirely of Colombians, many of whom also made it to the Colombian national team . In contrast, DIM completed the first seasons of the professional soccer championship in Colombia, introduced in 1948 , with a number of Peruvian players who delighted soccer fans so much that this team was nicknamed La Danza del Sol (German: The Sun Dance ). In homage to this designation, the first Barra by DIM, launched in 1972, was also called itself .

statistics

Atlético Nacional is the much more successful team in terms of sport, with 16 titles (most recently 2018-I ) record champions of the Colombian league and besides Once Caldas (winner 2004 ) the only Colombian club that has already won the Copa Libertadores ( 1989 and 2016 ). He also won the Copa Colombia four times (most recently in 2018 ). In contrast, the six championships (most recently 2016-I ) and a triumph in the Copa Colombia (1981) from DIM look downright modest.

The first Clásico Paisa , which is sometimes referred to as Derbi antioqueño or Clásico de la montaña , was held on September 12, 1948 in the Hipódromo San Fernando and ended with a 3-0 victory for DIM. The first derby in the Estadio Atanasio Girardot , which is still shared by both teams, took place on May 16, 1954 and ended 2-2. The most successful derby scorer on the side of Atlético Nacional is Víctor Aristizábal with 19 goals and on the side of the DIM Jorge Horacio Serna , who was successful eleven times.
