Clara Hermann grew up in Brno and after her marriage got involved in the founding and management of the sanatorium Alpenheim in Aussee and the sanatorium Hygiea in Meran. In the 1880s she wrote articles in the features sections of the Neue Freie Presse and the Wiener Allgemeine Zeitung on fashion and educational issues. Her first book was published in 1884. A Viennese woman in Paris , which consists of literary sketches, relates to Schreiber's longer stay in the French metropolis and contains special contributions to women's and everyday life at that time. In the preface Ferdinand Groß writes:

It is a book by a woman and for women. You have looked into Parisian life with a keen, clear eye, and much of what you single out literarily is dictated by a practical mind; what escapes so many strangers, you have surely grasped: the innermost character of French society, and especially the French you represent as she really is ... "

family

The author, born as Clara Hermann, had been the wife of the physician Josef Schreiber since 1867. The couple had three daughters, Ida Virginia (1868-1927), the later publicist and social politician Adele Schreiber-Krieger (1872-1957) and the future artist Lilli Baitz (1874-1942). Adele Schreiber wrote about her mother in 1924 that she was " one of the most intelligent women in old Austria. Also a writer: but that was more of a minor matter. - Chatting, aperçus, aphorisms, witty letters to well-known contemporaries, in short 'salon', 'great lady' , that was Clara Schreiber. "
