Coordinates: 42 ° 52 ′  S , 147 ° 22 ′  E The City of Clarence is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 386 km² and has about 55,000 inhabitants (2016).

Clarence is located in the southeast of the island and belongs almost entirely to the capital Hobart, except for Richmond . Clarence is located on the east bank of the Derwent River opposite the center of Hobart and Glenorchy and forms one of the largest administrative districts in Australia with 386 km² and 191 km of coastline. The area comprises 33 hamlets and towns: Acton, Bellerive , Bowen Park, Cambridge , Clarendon Vale, Clifton Beach , Cremorne, Dulcot, Geilston Bay, Grasstree Hill, Howrah, Lauderdale , Lindisfarne , Montagu Bay, Mornington, Mount Rumney, Oakdowns, Opossum Bay, Otago, Ralphs Bay, Richmond, Risdon, Risdon Vale, Roches Beach, Rokeby, Rose Bay, Rosny, Rosny Park, Sandford, Seven Mile Beach, South Arm, Tranmere and Warrane. The City Council is located in the Rosny Park district to the west of the LGA, where ten residents are registered (2016). It is named after King William IV , who held the title of Duke of Clarence before his coronation .

Cambridge is home to Hobart International Airport , the airport of the Tasmanian capital.

The Clarence City Council has twelve members. The mayor (mayor), his deputy (deputy) and seven Aldermen are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Clarence is not divided into districts.
