The Class of 1984 (original title: Class of 1984 ) is a Canadian thriller that started in Germany on November 11, 1982 and was directed by Mark L. Lester .

action

At the new school of music teacher Andrew Norris, mores prevail: Peter Stegman, the leader of a punk gang and his members terrorize students and teachers alike and conduct their criminal business such as drug trafficking and prostitution with impunity. When a student climbs the flagpole for cocaine use and then falls to his death, Norris decides to put a stop to the punk gang. But when Norris himself is targeted by the young people, events roll over. His colleague Terry is killed in an assassination attempt on the punk gang and his wife is raped. As a result of these events, Norris decides to take revenge on Stegman and the punk gang himself.

At school there is a showdown between Norris and the teenagers. Left on their own, Norris manages to take them out one by one. At the climax of the film, Norris and Stegman face each other on the roof of the school building. Stegman is badly beaten by Norris and falls through the roof of the building, killing him. The film ends with Norris and his wife collapsing exhausted. Norris will not be convicted due to a lack of evidence.

criticism

The lexicon of international film judged: "The cynical film, devoid of any moral claim, tries to convey its message that murder and terror can only be answered with terror and murder, in a particularly perfidious way."

Trivia

  • The many punks in the club were real punks.
  • The scene in which there was a mass brawl in the club was not planned that way. Actually, the actors were only supposed to stand on stage and celebrate with them until there was a fight for unexplained reasons.
  • The film was indexed shortly after its release, and was unindexed in December 2016.

Sequels

In 1990, director Lester also directed the sequel The 1999 Class . In 1994, under the direction of Spiro Razatos, a second sequel, Class of 1999 Part 2 , was produced directly for the video market.
