The A12 promoted the economic upswing in the south of the canton (Vivisbach and Gruyère districts ). The establishment of a cantonal spatial planning office underscored the growing importance of spatial planning, which the canton had to initiate in order to ensure appropriate land use and orderly settlement of the country (Art. 22 quater of the Federal Constitution, passed in 1969). In the army, Claude Genoud was Major in the Air Force .
