Claudia Ulla Binder

Claudia Ulla Binder (born March 14, 1959 ) is a German improvisation musician ( piano ) and composer .

Live and act

Binder grew up in southern Germany and studied musicology and psychology in Berlin ; In 1983 she graduated with a degree in psychology. In 1980 she attended a summer course with George Lewis at the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock . Back in Berlin, she took part in performances of the songbooks by John Cage under the direction of Dieter Schnebel . From 1983 to 1986 she studied with Walter Norris and then obtained a piano diploma at the Zurich University of the Arts .

Binder worked in a duo with John Butcher and Sara Maurer. In the group Quatre têtes she improvised with Susann Wehrli, Priska Walss and Gabriela Friedli . Her trio with Christian Weber and Dieter Ulrich was occasionally expanded to a quartet box by Joachim Zoepf . She also worked with artists such as Phil Durrant , Lol Coxhill , Stevie Wishart , Co Streiff , Hans Koch , Dorothea Schürch , Martin Schütz , John Russell , George Lewis, Jean-Marc Montera , Paul Hubweber and Carl Ludwig Hübsch .
