Claudio Lurati

Claudio Lurati MCCJ (born February 21, 1962 in Como ) is an Italian religious and appointed Vicar Apostolic of Alexandria in Egypt .

Life

Claudio Lurati joined the order of the Comboni Missionaries after graduating from high school , made his first profession in 1985 and perpetual profession on March 27, 1989 . He studied at Tangaza College in Nairobi theology and received on December 23, 1989 in Lipomo the sacrament of Holy Orders .

In the first years after the ordination he was active in the press work of the missions and completed training in the field of property management. In 1995 he went to what is now South Sudan as a missionary and in 1997 to Egypt. Here he was initially active in the parish pastoral care and from 1999 as the deputy superior of his community. From 2002 to 2007 he was Superior of the Comboni Missionaries in Egypt. Until his appointment as Vicar Apostolic, he was general economist in the direction of his religious community.

Pope Francis appointed him Vicar Apostolic of Alexandria in Egypt on August 6, 2020 .
