Louis Ferdinand Otto Lust (born March 6, 1834 in Schweidnitz ; † May 25, 1920 in Berlin ) was royal Prussian major general and most recently district commander of the Reserve Landwehr Battalion No. 35.

His grandfather was the forester Andreas Ludwig Lust . His parents were the lieutenant colonel a. D. August Ferdinand Louis Lufs (* December 15, 1788 - May 31, 1846) and his wife Arabella Romane Auguste von Taubenheim (* February 10, 1815 - August 30, 1839).

Life

On May 30, 1847, he went to Wahlstatt as a cadet and from there came to Berlin as a cadet . After graduating, he was transferred to the 10th Infantry Regiment on April 27, 1852 as a second lieutenant . On June 1, 1854 he came to the 10th Landwehr Regiment, where he was adjutant of III. Battalion in Schweidnitz. On March 1, 1855, he returned to the 1st Battalion of the 10th Infantry Regiment as an adjutant and was appointed a regimental adjutant on June 15, 1857. Promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on May 31, 1859, he was posted to the General Command of the V Army Corps on January 12, 1860 . From there he came on July 1, 1860 as an adjutant in the 20th Infantry Brigade and on June 9, 1864 as an adjutant in the 10th Infantry Brigade. As such he took part in the German-Danish War , but during the campaign he was promoted to captain on October 11, 1864 and appointed company commander in the 10th Infantry Regiment. During the German War of 1866 he fought in the Battle of Königgrätz . After the war he was transferred to the General Staff on March 16, 1869 , but from there on April 27, 1869 to the General Staff of the 18th Division. There he rose to major on October 21, 1869. During the Franco-Prussian War he fought at Colombey , Gravelotte , Noisseville , Orleans , Beaugency and Le Mans . He was also at the siege of Metz and the battles at Vienne and Epuisay. For this he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class on August 21, 1870 and the Iron Cross 1st Class on June 16, 1871 .

After the war he joined the 54th Infantry Regiment on March 11, 1873, where he became the commander of the 2nd Battalion. Promoted to lieutenant colonel on September 19, 1874, he was transferred to the cadet house in Oranienstein as commander on March 16, 1875 . From there he came to the newly established Hauptkadettenanstalt in Berlin on August 3, 1876 , and was promoted to colonel on October 18, 1878. After the official completion of the establishment of the main cadet institute in Lichterfelde, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle 3rd class with ribbon . He stayed there until February 3, 1880, when he was transferred as district commander to Reserve Landwehr Battalion No. 35 (Berlin). On October 17, 1883 he was given the character of major general and retired. On March 22, 1897, he was also awarded the Crown Order, 2nd class .

He died on May 25, 1920 in Berlin.
