Claus Koch (psychologist)

Claus Koch (* 1950 in Göttingen ) is a German psychologist , author and journalist .

Life

Koch studied philosophy and psychology in Heidelberg and Paris . His academic teachers included the philosopher Ernst Tugendhat and the social psychologist CF Graumann . In Paris he studied a. a. with Lucien Goldmann at the “ École pratiques des hautes études ”. In his doctoral thesis he described the phenomenology of mental illness. Starting with psychoanalysis, he then dealt with the developmental psychology of children, primarily from the point of view of attachment theory, and was given a teaching position at Bielefeld University .

For many years he has dealt with the situation and role of children, adolescents and young adults in our society in numerous scientific articles, newspaper articles, interviews and lectures. A special focus of his scientific and journalistic activity is the examination of the educational principles in the “Third Reich” and their consequences for the following generations until today. His most recent publications deal with the effects of early childhood attachment processes on the behavior of children and adolescents in social institutions such as parental home and school. This topic is also in the foreground of his work within the framework of the "Pedagogical Institute Berlin" (PIB), which he founded in 2016 together with the therapist and book author Udo Baer .

Until 2015, Koch was the publishing manager at Beltz Verlag and oversaw the advisory and non-fiction program. His authors included u. a. Jesper Juul , with whom he was close friends until his death in 2019.

Claus Koch lives in Heidelberg and Berlin . He is married and has four kids.
