Claus Ocher

Claus Ocker (born December 20, 1923 in Verden (Aller) ; † November 25, 2015 ) was a German singer of classical music and university professor with a baritone voice .

Life

Ocher was used as a soldier in the Wehrmacht for military service during the Second World War from 1942 from 1945 . After the war, from 1945 to 1951 he studied music at the Hamburg University of Music . From 1948 to 1975 Ocker worked as a freelance concert singer . Concert tours have taken him to the Middle East , Canada , Japan , China and India, among others . As a recitalist, ocher was particularly with German art songs of romance on.

From 1969 to 1975 he taught concert singing at the Bremen Conservatory . From 1975 to 1989 he was professor for singing at the Hamburg University of Music. From 1987, Ocker also took on various visiting professorships , including at St. Jose State University in California , as well as at universities in China and Japan. Until 1993 he also held lectureships at various universities, including at Osaka Ongaku Daigaku , the Osaka University of Music .

Ocker was a founding member of the Federal Association of German Singing Pedagogues and an honorary member of the Japanese Hugo Wolf Society and the Japanese Franz Schubert Society .
