Claus Strigel (born December 25, 1955 in Munich ) is a German filmmaker , film director , film producer , screenwriter and cameraman .

Life

Claus Strigel was born in Munich. He started filming with a Super 8 camera when he was a child . Between the ages of 11 and 18, he made his first experimental and short films (including "Umsonst", "da capo al fine", "DESASTER"). After graduating from high school, he studied pedagogy , philosophy and psychology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After the Munich police stormed an unauthorized student meeting in which he had participated and took some of the students into custody, he decided to make a documentary about the police operation, which he found terrifying, with the photo and film material that some of the students had in front of them Arrested and taped under the tables. He broke off his studies and looked at the film school for like-minded people to realize his project. That's how he got to know Bertram Verhaag . Together they founded the DENKmal-Filmgesellschaft in 1976 and published the material as a short film “Attack on our Democracy”, which to this day has cult status, especially among politically engaged students. At the end of 2012 there was a split into DENKmal-Film Verhaag GmbH and DENKmal-Film Strigel GmbH .

In 1990 Strigel and Verhaag received the Adolf Grimme Prize with bronze for Doppelpunkt vor Ort : Tatort Familie .
