Clemens Hagen

Clemens Hagen (born July 3, 1966 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian cellist and university professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

life and work

Clemens Hagen is the son of a solo violist and concert master of the Mozarteum Orchestra, Salzburg. At the age of six he received lessons from his father. He began studying at the Mozarteum at the age of eight. He later moved to the Basel Conservatory . His teachers included a. a. Wilfried Tachezi and Heinrich Schiff . In 1983 he received the Special Prize of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Dr. Karl Bohm Prize . Together with his sister Veronika Hagen , his brother Lukas Hagen and Rainer Schmidt , they form the well-known Hagen Quartet .

As a soloist , Clemens Hagen has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic , the Vienna Philharmonic , the Vienna Symphony , the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen , the Chamber Orchestra of Europe , the Cleveland Orchestra and the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg . Since 2003, Clemens Hagen has also been a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra .

Clemens Hagen recorded the entire works of Ludwig van Beethoven for violoncello and piano with Paul Gulda , and all of Robert Schumann's works for violoncello with Stefan Vladar .

In addition to his musical activities, Clemens Hagen has been teaching violoncello and chamber music at the Mozarteum University as a university professor since 1988 . He also gave master classes in America and Japan. Clemens Hagen plays a violoncello by Antonio Stradivari from 1698 (a private loan).
