Lukas Hagen

Lukas Johannes Hagen (born May 8, 1962 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian violinist and university professor .

Life

Lukas Hagen is the eldest son of a solo violist and concert master of the Mozarteum Orchestra , Salzburg. Like his siblings Clemens , Angelika and Veronika , Lukas received musical support from his father at an early age. Hagen studied violin at the Mozarteum Salzburg with Helmut Zehetmair , he graduated in 1983 with distinction. After completing his studies, he received one year of private tuition from Gidon Kremer and also studied with Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Walter Levin from the LaSalle String Quartet . Participation in juries of international competitions and master classes enabled him to work with artists such as Oleg Maisenberg , Heinrich Schiff , András Schiff and Wladimir Aschkenasi .

He performed as a soloist at the Salzburg Mozart Week and the Salzburg Festival . His concerts in Amsterdam , Brussels , Paris , the USA , Japan , Italy and Great Britain made him internationally known . In addition, Hagen was concertmaster of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe for seven years and is a violinist in the Serapion Ensemble . He was mainly known for his interpretations of Dmitri Shostakovich and César Franck .

Lukas Hagen has been professor for violin and chamber music at the Mozarteum in Salzburg since 1999 . From November 24, 2006, he was also Vice Rector of the university and responsible for coordinating artistic projects. In February 2018 he chaired the jury at the 13th International Mozart Competition in the string quartets category .

Together with the Hagen Quartet , which he directs as first violinist, he won several first prizes at international competitions in Portsmouth and Évian . In addition, there has been an exclusive contract with the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft since 1985 .

Together with his wife Iris, Lukas Hagen founded the folk and chamber music festival “ Hagen Open Festival ” in 2004 at Feistritz Castle near Vienna .

Lukas Hagen has acquired a modern violin from Stefan-Peter Greiner's workshop . At times he played the Stradivarius "ex Rewark" from 1724 from the collection of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank . Currently (2018) he plays a Stradivarius from 1734.
