Clemens Hummel (born October 12, 1869 in Donzdorf ; † January 23, 1938 in Stuttgart ) was a German architect and technical school teacher.

Life

Clemens Hummel was born in Donzdorf in 1869 as the son of privateer Johannes Hummel. He attended the humanistic grammar school in Ehingen and began studying architecture at the Technical University of Stuttgart . Here he joined the Alemannia Stuttgart fraternity in 1892 .

After completing his studies, he worked for three years as an employee in the office of the renowned Stuttgart architect Skjøld Neckelmann , before going into business for himself. Soon he began to teach as an assistant teacher at the building trade school in Stuttgart , where he worked for 30 years and was appointed professor. Among his students was the architect Karl Beer .

From October 1895 he did military service as a one-year volunteer with the 1st Upper Alsatian Field Artillery Regiment No. 15 .

On August 22, 1914, as a result of the mobilization, he was called up to the 2nd substitute division of the Landwehr Field Artillery Regiment No. 29. In October he was promoted to lieutenant in the Landwehr and subsequently headed a flag train with which he took part in the battles for Reims and Verdun, among other things. First assigned to 1st Army , his unit was later assigned to 5th Army .

On December 15, 1916, he received the Iron Cross, 2nd class, and on February 20, he was awarded the Knight's Cross, 2nd class of the Order of Frederick .

In August 1918 he was dismissed from military service in order to resume his work at the building trade school .
