Climent Baixas i Cuyas

Climent Baixas i Cuyas (* 1854 in Barcelona ; † December 4, 1936 there ) was a Catalan organist and composer of the Romantic period.

life and work

Climent Baixas i Cuyas initially joined the chorus of Barcelo Neser church Sant Jaume and learned there with Nicolau Manent Solfeggio , Harmony and Piano. At the age of 16 he continued his studies with Anselm Barba and Josep Ribera . Baixas endeavored to make Richard Wagner's work known in Catalonia. In 1882 he attended the premiere of Parsifal in Bayreuth.

In 1874 he became a music teacher and conductor of the Jesuits in Barcelona. He gave intensive music lessons there and at other schools in Barcelona that were sponsored by the church.

He composed church music for voices and orchestra or for organ, such as the Missa de Glòria , a Te Deum , a Passion and motets . In addition, he composed instrumental music for piano, harmonium and orchestra ( preludes , barcaroles , marches).
