TV cabinet Clivia

Clivia was a television - radio combination device that was built from 1955/56 to 1958 in the VEB Sachsenwerk / Rafena in Radeberg , Saxony . Together with the model Claudia, Clivia was the first TV cabinet in the GDR .

technology

Two different versions of the Clivia were made. A 43 cm / 70 ° black and white picture tube was installed in both variants . The “Rubens” television chassis and the “Stradivari” radio receiver were installed in the Clivia I model, the “Dürer” television chassis and the “Beethoven” radio receiver were used in the Clivia II model. The radio receivers came from the VEB Stern Radio in Rochlitz . In addition, Clivia had a connection for a wired remote control , with which brightness, contrast and volume could be regulated. A total of 19,188 devices were manufactured.

reception

From the mid-1950s, the Clivia TV cabinet was presented with other models from the Radeberg company at numerous international radio and technology trade fairs. The Radeberger devices were able to assert themselves qualitatively on the market, so that many devices were exported and thus served to procure foreign currency .

In West Germany , too , the technical developments in the GDR were noticed, for example in 1956 the Spiegel described the Clivia TV cabinet as one of the devices that dominated the market.
