Cobalt (III) hydroxide is a brown solid that is insoluble in water and soluble in acids. It also occurs as a brown or purple colored trihydrate that is insoluble in water and alcohol but soluble in concentrated acids. It loses crystal water at 100 ° C. Under special conditions, the compound can dehydrate at 150 ° C via cobalt hydroxide oxide to cobalt (III) oxide .
