Colchicum macrophyllum is a species of the genus Herbstzeitlose ( Colchicum ) in the family of the timeless plants (Colchicaceae).

Colchicum macrophyllum is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 40 centimeters. This geophyte forms sprouts as persistence organs. The leaves are ovate to elliptical-ovate, strongly puckered and measure (24) 30 to 35 (42) × (11) 13 to 15.5 centimeters. They are absent during the flowering period. The flowers are wheel-shaped. The 45 to 70 millimeter large petals are patterned like a checkerboard and colored lavender-purple, they are often lighter at the base. The anthers are purple. The pollen is green. The egg-shaped, beaten capsule fruits are 40 to 50 millimeters in size.

The flowering period extends from September to October.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 54.

Occurrence

Colchicum macrophyllum is a South Aegean- Southwest Anatolian floral element. It occurs in southern Evia and from Crete to southwestern Turkey. The species grows in forests, maquis, olive groves, on fallow land and on deep, shaded clay soils at altitudes of 200 to 750 meters.
