action

The film begins with a flashback to 1976. The eleven-year-old Brath is kicked out by his parents and held captive in the basement of a mountain hotel in the Jotunheimen Mountains. The son is reported missing. The parents claim that their son went out to play and never came back. However, the father threw him into a crevasse. After a while, the son, who survived the crevasse, returns to the mountain hotel and kills both of his parents with a knife.

Twelve years later, six young people are on their way to the Jotunheimen Mountains. A policeman named Einar takes the group into the mountains in his company car. On the way there he meets his brother Jon, whose car just broke down. Einar promises the group to come and pick them up the next day. The group intends to hike to the abandoned mountain hotel. Once there, however, doubts arise and the group decides not to spend the night there. They move on and decide to set up camp near a mountain lake. During the night Siri and Knut disappear together in the forest to have "fun". The two fall into a pit. When he falls, Knut is impaled by a wooden stake in his stomach area. The uninjured Siri climbs out of the mud pit to get help. An unknown person appears at the pit, who Knut takes to his hut. There Knut is cut open with a knife and killed. Siri wanders through the forest and ends up lying exhausted on the road. When a car approaches, she wakes up. It's Jon, Einar's brother. Siri tells him what happened. Then Jon promises to help her. They drive to the hut where Knut was killed. Jon orders Siri to wait in the car and enters the cabin, where he discovers what the killer did. Angry, he leaves the hut and walks away. Meanwhile, Siri gets out of the car and enters the hut, where she finds Knut's body. Shortly thereafter, Jon, who suddenly appears, grabs her and takes her away.

It is now morning and the rest of the youngsters are starting to worry about Knut and Siri. The four go in search of them. Simen, who works for the Norwegian Home Guard, has brought his weapon and is stalking through the forest alone with his weapon. Hedda, Anders and Magnus go together to find Siri and Knut. The murderer suddenly appears at Simen's, whereupon Simen tries to shoot him. A little later, Hedda discovers Simen sitting dead by a tree. A branch pierced his head. The remaining three then flee. They find shelter in a house. However, the killer follows them. The three make it out of the house and continue to flee. In a river, however, they are shot at with arrows by the murderer. An arrow hits Anders in the left chest area. Another arrow pierces Magnus' foot. They get carried away by the river. Hedda finds Anders again, who was washed ashore by the river. It is now night and Magnus finds Einar's police car. He tries to short-circuit the car, but mixes up the cables and triggers the siren with a blue light. This makes the killer aware of him. In the ensuing close combat, Magnus is killed and dragged away.

Siri, who is still alive, wakes up tied up. She can free herself from the shackles. Shortly afterwards Magnus is dragged into the hut by the murderer. She has to watch as his throat is cut while hanging upside down. The murderer now finds Hedda and Anders. He wants to take Anders, who is playing dead, whereupon Hedda sticks a screwdriver in his stomach. However, the killer grabs Hedda and pushes her into the water to drown her. Anders appears behind him and hits him on the spine with a stone, leaving him unconscious in the stream. Hedda and Anders then continue their escape. However, the murderer comes to.

In the meantime Einar is sitting in the police office and opens the drawer with the unsolved cases and takes out a file from the "Hotel des Evil". He looks at the old newspaper articles and initially believes that his brother Jon is responsible for the disappearance of the six teenagers and for more murders.

Meanwhile, Hedda and Anders come to Jon's hut. Jon lets Hedda in, Anders has to stay outside. Hedda tries to make a phone call and watches as Jon tries to arm himself. She sees the hunting rifle, takes it and points it at him. Then she calls Anders, who is now pointing the gun at Jon. She then goes to the basement and finds Siri. The three want to go out the door, but there is the murderer who stabbed Siri with a knife. Jon Anders can then remove the rifle. Jon tells the killer that he should never have taken him there: "I should have let you freeze to death in the snow." Then the killer picks up the shotgun and shoots Jon. Hedda and Anders then flee into the cellar. You're trying to get outside through the window. When Anders got outside, the murderer kills him with a spade. Hedda grabs an ice ax and goes upstairs. She can surprise the killer and rams the pimple into his body, causing him to lose consciousness. She points the gun at the suddenly appearing policeman Einar. The murderer comes to. Einar shoots Hedda when she wants to shoot the murderer who appears behind him. The murderer then leaves the hut and heads towards the abandoned mountain hotel.

criticism

The Lexicon of International Films saw “the poorly developed history of two psychological horror films. There are clear limits to the mystery of the plot, especially since victims and perpetrators can be identified as such early on. "

production

The entire recordings were shot in Jotunheimen . Leirvassbu Fjellstue , which is located near the village of Lom (in the province of Oppland ) , served as the backdrop for the remote mountain hotel that can be seen in the film .
