Colleen Coover (born July 14, 1969 in Iowa ) is an American comic book artist and illustrator.

After dropping out of studies and working as a dishwasher, Coover made her debut as a comic artist in the 1994 anthology Attitude Lad (edited by Paul Tobin and Phil Hestr), published by Slave Labor Graphics . She came to this work, which was later also pursued as a profession, through her partner Paul Tobin, who, according to her, had the greatest influence on her (before Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez , Milton Caniff , Stan Sakai , Seth , Wally Wood , Rumiko Takahashi and Hilda Terry ) Had work, often scripts her work and lives and works with in Portland, Oregon . They married on August 25, 2007.

Coover's best-known work as a comic artist is the Small Favors series (sometimes with the subtitle “Small Favors” in the German-language edition), which has so far been available in two edited volumes. In it, the mostly erotic-pornographic adventures of the main characters Annie and Nibbil are told in short episodes in a humorous way Stories to have an open relationship with her. With this series, Coover primarily wanted to create lesbian pornography that should not be from a male- heterosexual perspective, but also and especially for women themselves, and should be primarily girlish, cute and happy in addition to the explicit representation of sexuality.

In addition, Coovers published the four-part series Banana Sunday , which was also published as an anthology, and drew some short stories for the spin-off series X-Men: First Class, published by Marvel Comics .

In addition to her work as a comic artist, she created illustrations for various magazines (including On Our Backs , Girlfriends , Curve , Kitchen Sink , Nickelodeon Magazine ) and publishers (including Buckle Down Publishing, Alyson Books and Cleis Press ). Her comics have also appeared in Out magazine and the yearbook My Secret Eye , as well as in the What's Right? Anthologies . (Arsenal Pulp Press, 2003), True Porn (Alternative Comics, 2003) and Sexy Chix ( Dark Horse Comics , 2006).

Coover belongs to the Portland artist collective Periscope Studios. She is also an active member and since August 2004 on the Advisory Board of Prism Comics , a non-profit organization that advocates LGBT interests in the comic industry.
