Population development

The number of residents increased sharply between 1793 and 1881 (1793–1881: + 91.8%). This was followed by the first small wave of emigration as a result of the increasing mechanization of agriculture (1881–1901: −8.5%). The second growth spurt from 1901 to 1911 was stopped by the First World War. As a result of the numerous casualties and the flu wave of 1918, the population fell by 105 people between 1911 and 1921 (−11.9%). A second wave of emigration followed from 1921 to 1954 as a result of rural exodus (1921–1954: −35%). This was followed by a growth phase that lasted for decades (1954–1999: +85%). Since then the population has stagnated.
