Alfie Hewett (born December 6, 1997 in Norwich ) is a British wheelchair tennis player from England .

Career

At the age of six, Alfie Hewett was diagnosed with Perthes disease , and from then on he was dependent on a wheelchair. In addition, he was born with a heart defect, the Fallot tetralogy . He started playing tennis at a young age and started in the paraplegic class .

His first biggest success was winning the doubles competition at Wimbledon at the side of Gordon Reid in 2016 . Shortly afterwards he took part in his first Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . With Reid he won the silver medal in the doubles competition . In the singles he also reached the finals and met his doubles partner Reid there. He was clearly defeated by this, with which he won another silver medal. In 2017 he won his first Grand Slam title in singles at the French Open and defended his previous year's title with Gordon Reid at Wimbledon . He also won the US Open with Reid .

In the world rankings, he achieved his best placings with second place in singles on November 20, 2017 and third place in doubles on June 5, 2017.
