The Combi Freighter 5500 is a type of cargo ship, of which two units were built in 1998.

General

The ships of the type were built in 1998 at the Ferus Smit shipyard in Hoogezand for the Netherlands . They were employed for several years by the Intersee Schiffahrtsgesellschaft based in Haren (Ems) .

The ship type is based on a shipyard type that was built in various designs. Several ships built at the beginning of the 21st century at the Koninklijke Niestern Sander shipyard are listed under the same type designation . However, the types of ships differ significantly from one another in several points. For example, the ships built by Niestern Sander are longer and have two holds. In addition, the deckhouse is lower.

description

The ships are from a Deutz-MWM - diesel engine powered with 2,760 kW of power. The engine acts on a propeller . The ships are equipped with a bow thruster with an output of 350 kW.

The ships have a box-shaped hold with two hatches. The room is 72.60 m long, 12.03 m wide and 9.44 m deep. It tapers a little at the front. The hatches are 39.20 m long and 12.03 m wide. They are closed with eleven pontoon hatch covers. These can be moved with the help of a hatch trolley. The loading space has a capacity of 7707 m³. The ships are equipped with two bulkheads with which the hold can be divided. The tank top can be loaded with 15 t / m². There is a breakwater in front of the hold as protection against overflowing water.

The ships are set up for the transport of containers . The container capacity is 270  TEU . There is space for 148 TEU in the room and 122 TEU on deck. Four containers can be loaded next to each other and four on top of each other. On deck, eleven 20-foot containers can be loaded one behind the other and four containers next to each other. Taking into account the line of sight , up to four layers can be stowed one above the other. With homogeneous loading with 14 t heavy containers, the ships can carry 201 TEU, 148 TEU in space and 53 TEU on deck. There are 15 connections for refrigerated containers.

The deckhouse is designed to be relatively narrow and arranged very far back. It is relatively high in order to have the opportunity to load containers on deck. Below the bridge there is a deck that has not been extended and only serves to reach the necessary height for the bridge. The facilities for the crew such as cabins, mess , galley , changing room, laundry, an office as well as various storage and operating rooms are accommodated on four decks. A total of nine cabins are available on board the ships.

At the stern, on the port side, there is a free-fall lifeboat . The hull of the ships is reinforced with ice ( ice class 1A).
