Comecon was a Swedish death metal band from Stockholm that was formed in 1990 and disbanded in 1995.

history

The band was founded in 1990 by Pelle Ström and Rasmus Ekman, emerging from the metalcore group previously known as the hardcore punk band The Krixhjälters . After the band had developed the first songs, the debut album, which Entombed singer Lars-Göran "LG" Petrov sang , followed in 1992 via Century Media with Megatrends in Brutality . The second album Converging Conspiracies followed in 1993 , on which Martin van Drunen ( Asphyx , Pestilence ) took over the vocals. The recordings for this took place in the Sunlight Studios . On the third album, Fable Frolic , Marc Grewe ( Morgoth ) could be heard as the new singer before the band broke up.

style

Even if Fredrik Pålsson, Anders Green and Jonas Fredriksson were named as drummers for one album each, in reality a drum computer was used. According to Robert Müller of the Metal Hammer the band played Megatrends In Brutality brutal and simple death metal, the guitar riffs are primitive and catchy. The band was mainly influenced by grindcore releases from bands like Napalm Death and Bolt Thrower around 1988 when writing the album . According to Müller, the band also played classic Death Metal at Converging Conspiracies , but it is mainly its intellectual lyrics that are captivating.

Martin Popoff , in his book The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 3: The Nineties, described music as a faster, more aggressive version of Entombed regarding Megatrends In Brutality . Petrov's singing is extremely deep and is reminiscent of Grindcore. Converging Conspiracies would move away from Death Metal and more towards Hardcore Punk and drew comparisons to old works of Napalm Death. On Fable Frolic , Popoff also heard influences from hardcore punk as well as grunge influences. The drums sound clean and synthetic like Pantera's .
