Comedystreet is a German entertainment program by and with the protagonist Simon Gosejohann . He slips into different roles and frightens and shocked passers-by on the street. Many of his skits were shot in North Rhine-Westphalia , especially in the Ruhr area in smaller cities such as Witten , Ratingen , Hattingen or Lüdenscheid , but above all in the major cities of Dortmund , Bochum and Essen , but also partly in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region in cities like Düsseldorf . Other frequent filming locations are the islands of Sylt and Norderney . Some skits were also shot in foreign cities such as Paris and Prague . His actions are recorded by a hidden camera. The British comedy series Trigger Happy TV and World Shut Your Mouth by Dom Joly serve as models . Simon's brother Thilo is responsible for the camera.

The German TV station ProSieben broadcast the first episode on September 2, 2002. On July 13, 2006, ProSieben began broadcasting the third season. ProSieben broadcast the fourth season from July to August 2007. Due to the satisfactory ratings, a fifth season has been confirmed. It could be seen from January 13, 2009 on Tuesdays from 10:15 p.m. on ProSieben. Comedy Central has been broadcasting reruns of the program since October 2010 .

The sixth season has been broadcast under the name Comedystreet XXL since July 21, 2009 at 8:15 pm. Gosejohann targeted not only unsuspecting passers-by, but also celebrities. From June 11, 2011, the second and so far last season Comedystreet XXL ran at irregular intervals on Saturdays at around 10 p.m. , in which, due to Gosejohann's great fame, mainly abroad and / or with an elaborate mask. On March 9, 2013, the tenth anniversary was celebrated with a delay with a three-hour special broadcast under the name Comedystreet xXx , in which excerpts from already broadcast episodes were shown.

In 2016 Gosejohann indirectly continued the series under the new name Simonstreet XL as a cooperation with Clipfish. So far, a season with 6 episodes has been shown.

The shooting team consists of Simon Gosejohann himself, a cameraman (his brother Thilo Gosejohann ) who is usually not recognized, the director (Jens Holzgreve), mask and costume. For legal reasons, all passers-by are informed and asked for permission to broadcast. Porn actress and actress Tyra Misoux also appears in some scenes .

The program is not to be confused with the sketch series Comedy-Street with Constanze Harpen and Katharina Müller-Elmau , produced by Hessischer Rundfunk in 1991 , which was broadcast in 6 parts on ARD from September 23, 1991 .

In November 2019 there was a small revival in the show Das Duell um die Welt . There it was Gosejohann's job to shoot Comedystreet Taiwan.
