history

Joseph Schipfer (born April 8, 1761 in Ransbach , † January 27, 1843 in Niederwalluf ) was a squire from the village of Niederwalluf in the Rheingau near Wiesbaden . A letter from him, dated February 20, 1840, has been preserved with the title “General appeal to compassionate humanity”. In it, Schipfer describes the suffering of the French inhabitants of the areas around the Rhone and Saône . In this letter, the author also presents a brochure on his “general communications or world language”. Other brochures, for which he is also seeking support from the Duke , deal with the grammar of this language and with teaching materials for adults and children between the ages of 12 and 14. His offer also includes a description of how a live burial can be avoided. With the profit from the sale of his brochures, Schipfer proposes to support the French needy mentioned above. Perhaps this is one of the reasons for the Duke's negative decision.

The correspondence between Joseph Schipfer and the Duchy of Nassau from the years 1835 to 1841 is in the Hessian main state archive in Wiesbaden and can be viewed under the number 210/7907.
