The Connolly Street is a street in the Olympic Village and the student area of the Olympic Park in Munich .

description

The street was named in 1971 after James Connolly , the first modern Olympic champion (1896).

It leads from Helene-Mayer-Ring to Kusocinskidamm to Straßbergerstraße. The road is accessible to pedestrians and cyclists on the surface and to motorists underground. Access is via Lerchenauer Straße . The colored "Media Lines", a pipe system running on stilts by the Austrian architect Hans Hollein serve as a guide.

On it is the sculpture “Olympic Rings” from 1972 by Ruth Kiener-Flamm , or the new version from 2000 by Peter Schwenk . The Unterwegs theater (touring theater) is located at 20 Connollystraße .

The apartment of the Israeli Olympic team, who was later taken hostage, was at 31 Connollystraße . Following the Olympic Games, the design as a “Peace House ” was initially discussed, then the building was donated to the Max Planck Society , which uses it as a guest house. The Olympia assassination memorial site is 200 meters south .

To the north of Connollystrasse is the Nadisee , to the west is the central university sports facility .
