The Central University Sports Facility ( ZHS ) is a university sports facility in the Munich Olympic Park , in the Am Riesenfeld district of Munich .

With over 125,000 students and over 17,000 active participants per semester, the Central University Sports Munich is the largest university sports facility in Germany. There are 600 individual events per semester in over 100 different sports.

The sports center shares the facilities with the Technical University of Munich . A new building is planned for 2018 under the direction of Dietrich Untertrifaller and Ballina Schubert landscape architects.

Facilities

On the approximately 45 hectare site there are 11 sports halls, an outdoor sports facility with 15 soccer fields, 7 beach volleyball fields and a 16-meter-high climbing tower, a tennis facility with 22 courts, the hockey facility in the Munich Olympic Park and a golf practice facility. Outside of the sports facilities, the training pool in the Olympic swimming pool and the water sports area on Lake Starnberg (sailing, surfing) are available for sole use, and the Olympic regatta facilities (canoeing, rowing) in Oberschleißheim and the Bavarian Alps (mountain sports , Winter sports). Other ZHS practice sites are located in Freising and Landshut . The Munich Caribes have their home ground in the northern part of the ZHS site .

Transport links

Access is on the east by the Lerchenauerstraße branching and the Olympic Village therethrough Connolly Street . The closest stops are U3 Oberwiesenfeld on Moosacher Strasse in the north and U3 Olympiazentrum on Lerchenauer Strasse in the east; the latter is served by buses on lines 173 and N42.

Origin and Olympic Games

The ZHS and the TUM sports center are located in the facilities that have been converted many times and that were built for the 1972 Olympic Games . Competitions in gymnastics and volleyball took place in the buildings at that time, and the international television and radio center used the later offices and lecture halls.
