The Olympiazentrum underground station is a station on the Munich underground .
description
The station was opened for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich on May 8, 1972 and was the terminus of the U3 until 2007 . It was built with four tracks to handle a large number of passengers. Today, the trains that end here run on the middle tracks, the trains going through to or from Moosach underground station on the outer tracks. Since December 15, 2013, the U8 amplifier line to Sendlinger Tor at the Olympic Center has started and ended on Saturdays .
The station is under a bus station and parallel to Lerchenauer Straße. The back track walls are made of concrete in which there are reliefs of circles. The floor of the two platforms was laid out with an Isar pebble motif, reflecting the light from the light strips on the ceiling, which is covered with aluminum slats. The Olympic Village can be reached via the northern exit, and both the BMW Welt and the Olympic Park via the southern exit . There is an elevator at the northern end of both platforms. Since the station is close to the surface, there are no barrier floors. The station should actually have been called Oberwiesenfeld, which is why there was twice in the orange line Olympiazentrum (Oberwiesenfeld) until the extension of the U3 to the Olympia shopping center in 2007 . In 1990, the plastic furniture, which was also orange, was exchanged for wire seats, which are also used in the other train stations.
Since 2020, the metro station is Olympic Center and four other stations of the Olympic subway under monument protection .
