The Obersendling U-Bahn station is a station of the Munich U-Bahn and at the same time a transfer station to the Munich S-Bahn . The U3 underground line goes to Fürstenried here .

location

The station is on the border between the districts of Thalkirchen and Obersendling on S-Bahn line 7 north of the Siemenswerke S-Bahn station.

history

The Obersendling underground station was built according to plans by Josef Karg and Manfred Kessler. The opening took place on October 28, 1989.

architecture

The structure has a platform with the tracks running on both sides. The ceiling is covered with light panels and illuminated. The walls show the exposed concrete piles as they were used to build the tunnel station. This construction is possible because the station is high above the groundwater and the walls therefore do not have to be specially sealed against the ingress of water. The shell piles are painted rusty brown, which creates a color contrast to the light roof. Since this type of construction enables inexpensive and fast construction, it served as a model for other tunnel stations.

traffic

As a transfer station, Obersendling underground station offers connections to S-Bahn lines 7 and 20 as well as regional trains (BOB and Meridian). However, there is a 400 m long footpath between the underground station and the Siemenswerke S-Bahn station .
